UNESCO Art Camp Malta in Gozo 2019 24th October to 5th November One of the most important challenges for UNESCO is reinforcing the role of culture as an essential tool in sustainable education and the promotion of peace. The goals are also embedded in the Millennium Development Goals post-2015.
UNESCO is engaged in mobilising agents from different fields and regions in order to promote dialogue and understanding among cultures. The representative of Jordan, Aseel Azizieh, in this camp gave a speech about peace and how Islam referred to peace..
The speech began with the salutation. Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you. She explained this greeting. She said, “We use this greeting at all times, which means that we wish well for all and pray to God that they are always be safe.” – She also presented three paintings that she accomplished during her stay in Gozo . Over twenty-three artists participated in this event and it was evident that the artists’s work got an extra value as it was the result of living together with other peers and sharing their cultures with the Gozitan and Maltese communities through outreach programmes. The event, which is sponsored by both public and private entities, will be hosting over twenty artists from the UE, North Africa and the Middle-East.
The Art Camp, which is an artist-in-residence programme, will be offering participating artists a time and space away from their usual environment and obligations, thus providing time of reflection, research, presentation and production related to the chosen central theme of the project.
A varied programme has been prepared for the artists during their stay in Gozo, including excursions to historic sites in Malta and Gozo, a culinary night, and also outreach programmes with the community and schools. The Art Camp Malta in Gozo 2019 is being held from 24th October to 5th November at Tal-Fanal village in Għasri, Gozo and the theme for this edition is “Colours for Peac
The artist, Aseel Azizia, led a drawing workshop with students of San Andrea School in Valletta, aimed at promoting dialogue between cultures, acceptance of the other, and respect for the opinion and thought of the other. The workshop yielded amazing results for the students of the school.
