Faces without features
This painting was made in Tbilisi Georgia 2025 from the “Human Echoes” series, called Faces without Features
Acrylic on canvas
100x120cm
The heavy, central masses of charcoal and burnt umber act as the “heads” or “towers of identity.” Because they lack eyes, mouths, or defining lines, they represent the universal human—anyone and everyone. The thick impasto (the raised, physical paint) suggests that even without features, these “faces” have a profound, heavy presence. They aren’t empty; they are overflowing with a history that can no longer be spoken.
Artist’s Statement:
“Faces Without Features is an exploration of the universal identity. By stripping away the specifics of the human countenance, I aim to focus on the ‘weight’ of being. The work suggests that our features are merely temporary masks, while our true essence is a textured, turbulent collection of echoes. It is a portrait of the anonymous soul—a study in how much can be communicated through shadow and light when the face itself is gone.”
