In this context, the dense, dark impasto in the center represents the “footstep” itself—a heavy, physical mark made upon the world. The jagged edges and the way the brown and black paint grip the canvas feel like the pressure of a heel or a soul pressing into the earth. It is a “ghost” because the person is gone, but the displacement they caused remains visible.

Artist’s Statement for the Series “Human Echoes”:

“Ghost of a Footstep 1 is an exploration of what we leave behind. Through aggressive, tactile layering and a stark contrast between earth-tones and ethereal blues, the work captures the ‘pressure’ of a human presence. It is a portrait of an absence—a visual record of a moment that has passed, leaving only a textured scar upon the silence of the canvas.”
