Between Shape and Silence 2022

Between Shape and Silence explores the delicate threshold where form begins to emerge yet resists full definition. The sculpture presents a face that feels suspended—caught between becoming and dissolving—where features are suggested rather than clearly formed. This ambiguity allows the work to exist in a quiet, contemplative space, where presence is felt more than it is seen.

The surface carries soft transitions and subtle textures, as if shaped by both intention and erosion. Light moves gently across the form, revealing fleeting contours before they fade again into silence. The face appears neither complete nor absent; instead, it inhabits an in-between state, where identity is fluid and open.

There is a stillness within the piece that holds a quiet intensity. The absence of clear expression becomes its own form of communication, inviting the viewer to engage not through recognition, but through perception and feeling.

Between Shape and Silence reflects the idea that what is unspoken can be as powerful as what is visible—that silence itself can hold form, memory, and meaning.

Artist Statement

In Between Shape and Silence, I am drawn to the space where form and absence meet. I explore the moment when the face begins to take shape, yet remains incomplete—where silence becomes part of the structure itself.

My process is guided by reduction and intuition. I allow the material to move between presence and erasure, embracing imperfection and incompleteness as essential elements of the work. What remains is not a defined face, but a trace—an echo of identity shaped by time and experience.

I am interested in what exists beyond expression, beyond clarity. Silence, for me, is not emptiness; it is a space full of potential, where meaning is not imposed but discovered.

Through this sculpture, I invite the viewer to slow down and enter this quiet space—to experience form not as something fixed, but as something that emerges and recedes, carrying within it the unseen depth of human presence.
