Colour the Peace UNESCO – Malta Gozo 2019

UNESCO Colour The Peace ArtCamp 2019

UNESCO Art Camp Malta in Gozo 2019 took place from 24 October to 5 November 2019 in Gozo, bringing together more than twenty artists from Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East in a unique cross-cultural residency program.

Organized under the umbrella of UNESCO, the Art Camp aimed to reinforce the role of culture as a key driver of sustainable education and peacebuilding. The initiative, originally launched in Andorra, continues to promote dialogue and mutual understanding among artists from diverse backgrounds, aligning with global development goals.

Hosted at Tal-Fanal village in Għasri, the 2019 edition carried the theme “Colours for Peace”, encouraging artists to reflect on harmony, coexistence, and cultural diversity through their creative practices. The residency provided participants with an inspiring environment for research, collaboration, and artistic production, alongside a rich program of cultural activities, site visits, and community engagement.

Among the participating artists was Aseel Azizieh, who proudly represented Jordan in this international gathering. During the Art Camp, she contributed to the collective artistic dialogue through her work while also engaging directly with the local community.

As part of the outreach program, Azizieh conducted a workshop with students at Saint Jeanne Antide School in Malta, where she shared her artistic experience and encouraged young participants to explore creativity as a universal language. The workshop highlighted the educational dimension of the Art Camp, emphasizing the importance of art in fostering communication, understanding, and peace among younger generations.

The event was supported by the Maltese National Commission for UNESCO and the Office for Education, Science and Culture in Gozo, with the continued patronage of Hedva Ser. Together, they reinforced the significance of initiatives like Art Camp in bridging cultures and promoting global artistic exchange.
