In this interpretation, the dense, dark impasto (thick paint) in the center functions as the “ruins.” The heavy blacks and burnt umbers feel like charred wood or weathered stone—the physical remains of a house, a forest, or a cliffside. The vibrant turquoise above isn’t just a sky anymore; it’s a “stain” of color that has survived the erosion of the rest of the landscape.
Statement:
“Remnants of a Scene is a tactile investigation into the anatomy of the ‘aftermath.’ Utilizing a heavy, gestural technique, the artist presents a landscape stripped to its core elements. The collision of scorched earth tones and ethereal blues creates a visual record of survival, where the thick textures represent the physical weight of what remains when the original view has weathered away.”
