Layers of Longing
This painting from the “Human Echoes” series, called Layers of Longing
2022
acrylic on canvas
120x100cm
In this work, the heavy impasto (thick paint) is the physical embodiment of “longing.” Each stroke of deep umber and charcoal feels like a year or a memory that has been laid down with weight. The dark center isn’t just a shadow; it is the “core” of a desire that has become dense and solid over time.
Artist’s Statement:
“In Layers of Longing, the canvas becomes a physical record of the heart’s history. By stacking dense, earthy pigments against fleeting celestial blues, I aim to capture the ‘weight’ of what we hold onto. The work is an archaeological dig into the self, where every texture and scrape represents a layer of memory, desire, and the persistent echo of what we once sought.”
